Summer Youth Education Conference

*WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS YEAR (2013)*

The Office of the District Attorney, Orange County, is now accepting applications for the Summer Youth Education Conference.  This program is an intensive week-long summer program, which focuses on the criminal justice system.  If you are at least fifteen (15) years old, and are interested in either pursuing a career in any area of the criminal justice system or learning about the role of local law enforcement agencies, you are encouraged to apply.

This summer conference provides you with an informative overview of criminal cases, from the time a crime is reported, to the trial, and on through the sentencing.  You will have the opportunity to interact with professionals in all areas of the criminal justice system, including the district attorney, judges, police officers, prosecutors, and public defenders.  In addition to workshops led by different professionals, you will also have the opportunity to take field trips to different agencies, such as local courts, police departments, and training facilities.  At the end of the program, you will have a better understanding of the criminal justice system and the role of the District Attorney’s Office.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in law, law enforcement or local government, or you are interested in learning about the criminal justice system, then this program is for you.  We ask that you commit to the week-long program on August 5 - 9, 2013, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and attend a mandatory orientation workshop on the evening of Thursday, May 16, 2013. We will be selecting 25 - 30 students from high schools throughout Orange County to participate. If accepted, you will have to pass a criminal background check.

The application process is simple, but highly competitive.  Please take your time in completing the application and a full one page essay explaining why you are interested in attending the Summer Youth Education Conference. Your application and essay must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013, via mail, hand delivery, or by an online application.

If you are selected to participate in the program, you will be notified either by e-mail, or phone on Thursday, May 2, 2013.

If you have any questions, please call Annette Perez at (714) 347-8870, or via email at [email protected].
