FACTS OF THE CASE: On July 2, 1993, Melendez is accused of being involved in a gang-related shooting in Anaheim. Melendez is accused of sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle travelling eastbound adjacent to the car the victim was driving on California State Route 91. The victim had a woman and an 11-month-old baby in his car. Melendez is accused of shooting the driver in the torso causing the victim to lose consciousness and crash his vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries. The woman and baby in the victims vehicle survived the crash. Melendezs co-defendant driver was arrested days later, charged, convicted and sentenced to prison.
CIRCUMSTANCES OF DISAPPEARANCE/LAST SEEN: Melendez is accused of fleeing the scene in the car, which was recovered days later. Melendez has family members living in the Southern California area, but he is believed to be in Mexico.
