PROFESSIONAL CLOWN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN STATE PRISON FOR COLD CASE RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN 2002
SANTA ANA A professional clown was sentenced today to 10 years in state prison for raping a 12-year-old girl in 2002. Jose Guadalupe Jimenez, 43, Anaheim, pleaded guilty to one felony count of lewd acts upon a child under 14 and one felony count of forcible lewd act on a child under 14. He will be required to register as a sex offender for life. The negotiated plea was a result of the totality of the evidence of the case, availability of witnesses, and wishes of the victim.
Jimenez is a professional clown who goes by the name of El Tin Marin, an occupation which regularly allowed him access to children. On the night of Jan. 19, 2002, Jimenez, dressed as a clown, approached 12-year-old Jane Doe outside of the Taco Bell on Lemon Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue in Fullerton. He grabbed Jane Doe by the wrists, pulled her into his car, and drove the victim to an area near Ladera Vista Junior High School. He raped her inside the car and drove Jane Doe to a hotel in Fullerton. Fullerton Police were contacted and a DNA sample was collected and entered into the local and National DNA banks.
The defendants DNA was taken for an unrelated corporal injury on a child (Case # 10NM14083) from November 2010 and was being prosecuted by the Anaheim City Attorneys. (The defendant pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to 180 days in jail on Feb.28, 2012.) In February 2011, the Orange County Sheriff Forensic Science Services linked Jimenez to the 2002 cold case. Jimenez was arrested March 25, 2011, by the Fullerton Police Department.
Jimenezs lifetime sex offender registration bars him from entering County recreational areas and City parks which have passed the Sex Offender Ordinance.
