The Orange County District Attorneys Office prosecuted Rigoberto Camacho Alvarez, a non-physician defendant, who stole the identity of an actual licensed physician and practiced medicine for almost a year at a clinic in Santa Ana. The defendant obtained the identity of the physician along with other identifying information such as drivers license number and Social Security number by purchasing them from an individual in
Los Angeles. In treating patients and pretending to be a doctor, he endangered the lives of sick persons who trusted him to take care of them in their time of need. The defendant received two years in state prison for three felony convictions for unlawful practice of medicine and one felony conviction of identity theft.
