A manufacturer of a custom wheels shop based in
Buena Park pleaded guilty to three counts of felony hazardous waste crimes. Ultra Wheel admitted to discharging acidic waste containing heavy metals such as copper and nickel into the public sewer system and dumping similar wastes into the storm drain system. This drain system went directly into the environment through Coyote Creek in Buena Park. The manufacturer was sentenced to pay a total of $425,000 in fines and costs and placed on three years probation. As a result of the prosecution, the manufacturer spent $500,000 to upgrade its facility to prevent future contamination of the environment, cleaned the public storm drain servicing the facility, and paid to clean the public sewer system that is currently servicing their facility.
