When a minor commits certain serious felony crimes, the District Attorneys Office may request the Juvenile Court transfer the case to the adult justice system. The court will look at various factors to determine if the minor is fit for juvenile court. If the court finds the minor unfit for juvenile court, then the case is transferred to the adult justice system and the case is prosecuted just like an adult felony case.
- In other serious felony cases, the District Attorneys Office has the option of filing the case directly in adult court and treat the minor as an adult in the eyes of the law.
- In some serious felony cases, the District Attorney is mandated to file the case of the juvenile directly in an adult case and the minor will be deemed an "adult" in the eyes of the law.
